In session 15 of 4 Glory, the Contaburnium continues their mission to quell Janus’s rebellion in southern Vesentia. The session begins with Euridice slipping out to meet Julian, who is recovering from captivity in the Scali camp. They discuss the betrayal by Raul and Sabina, with Julian revealing his father’s harsh treatment of Raul. Euridice shares a brief memory of her own father, and Julian encourages her for the journey ahead. Meanwhile, Casper and Ushet gather supplies, with Ushet crafting a custom shield marked with ash and pitch. They also collect extra daggers and receive capes as rewards from the trials.
The party departs just after midnight, with Euridice tasked to watch Ushet. Ushet bonds with a grey horse named Umbra, though trust is slow to build. They travel by night for safety, stopping in La Cuna to rest. There, Ushet converses with an innkeeper, an older Fengari who welcomes him despite his appearance. That evening, they continue westward until dawn, encountering a farmhouse harassed by a drunk veteran. Casper and Cassius distract the man, while Euridice comforts the family and arms the boys for defense. The veteran is sent away, and the party moves on.
Celtie spends much of the journey training Vella, her Vesentine eagle, while Ushet scouts ahead. He spots a distant fire with moving figures, prompting the party to veer off the road. Rain falls, and Celtie sees the fire extinguished. The next day, Casper takes watch, spotting a tower and a rabbit he kills. Celtie’s watch reveals smoke to the south; she sends Vella to investigate but fails to notice three Scali warriors approaching from the north. Euridice wakes and wisely offers food and arrows to the Scali, who move on. Celtie’s eagle returns with news of burning homes, and the party crests a hill to see Septima in flames, with orcs rampaging and a catapult launching fireballs. Casper feels his prism vibrate warmly for the first time.
The party flees south, but Cassius, hungry, eats poisonous beetles and falls ill. Euridice heals him with five points of healing energy, causing him to vomit. As they continue, they spot a small campsite ahead. Three orcs from the catapult run toward it, and the party circles to intervene. The campsite holds Vesentians fighting off five or six orcs, with one defender on his knees. The party rolls initiative and prepares for combat, with the first attacks missing or landing critical hits. The session ends as battle commences.
